Every year we welcome volunteers from around the world, who give their support to the Faia Brava conservation plan. Between 2005 and 2012 we could plant more than 30 000 trees with the support of volunteers. Faia Brava depends on the interest and support of volunteers who give their time and energy to this project.

Volunteers are guaranteed a personal insurance and basic accomodation, as well as transportation to and from the work locations.

There are three ways of being a volunteer at ATN:

a) Abel's Saturdays

sabados do abel This is a weekly volunteer program, every Saturday, with Abel, our field worker. The program starts at 8h30, with the meeting point at ATN's office. For one day you will help Abel in all his tasks: tree pruning, trail cleaning, maintenance of the tree nursery, tree plantation, collecting seeds, fire surveillance, surveillance of the horses and cow herds.
This is a proposal for a different weekend. With the duration of 7 hours, we insure the transportation from Figueira to Faia Brava.

b) Work camp

campos de trabalho Every year, during the summer, we organize work camps to receive volunteers from across the world. Check our agenda.

In a period of your choice

If you are planning to come to Portugal in another period, and you want to spend some days or months being part of our field team, you only have to inform ATN about the period for which you would be available. Besides our proposals on helping the field team, we are open to your ideas. Just let us know a little about your personal expectations and what do you want to achieve. We would like to help developing your own projects at Faia Brava.

For example, we have received some biology students who developed biodiversity inventories, and have done a great work.

There are no limits, just show us your idea!

- cleaning and marking the Côa Valley Grand Route
- maintaining the tree nursery
- planting trees and forestry work
