ATNatureza is hiring new executive director

 

Our nature reserves such as Faia Brava, are special places and so we are looking for a special person to lead our ATNatureza organization and champion our reserves for current and future generations.

Nature parks and protected landscapes have never been more important for our Portugal. For 20 years the organization ATNatureza creates spaces for nature; we protect fragile habitats and species; provide wonderful landscapes for recreation. We conserve and improve the natural and cultural heritage of Northeast of Portugal; in the Côa, Águeda and Douro Valleys region.

ATNatureza is seeking to recruit a proven, inspiring leader with the capability of growing an organization’s impact and building future leadership.

 

Roles / Responsibilities

1) Management of the organization 

The director will coordinate all actions related to the operational management of the organization, complying with the multi-annual strategic program of the ATNatureza Board. These tasks include the planning of activities, their execution and permanent monitoring, the supervision of the team, the preparation of execution reports, the evaluation of activities and coordination with the Board. The Director will be responsible for preparing the annual activity plan and respective final report.

2) Fundraising and Sustainability 

The Director will promote the necessary contacts (networking) and take initiatives for raising governmental, EU and private enterprise funds.

3) Administrative and financial management 

The Director will supervise all administrative and financial matters, based on the approved annual plan and budget. It will monitor the association's budget execution, through the cash flow evaluation / execution tool, coordinating the accounting, informing and supporting the Board in administrative and financial decisions. It will define and implement the measurement and control systems that allow the monitoring of key objectives, reporting and corrective measures when necessary.

4) Operational Management of the Faia Brava and EPNs project 

The Director will be responsible for the operational management of the Spaces for Nature, through the implementation of the management plans for each of the areas.

5) Nature Conservation Projects 

With the support of the Board, the Director will support the project department in the design and execution of the projects.

6) Human Resources 

The Director is responsible for the management of the ATNatureza team, supervising and supporting the execution of their work schedules, promoting technical and professional training, ensuring an annual performance evaluation model.

7) Communication and public relations 

The Director will ensure the representation of the organization and ensure that the mission and the Faia Brava project and EPNs are presented to the partners, society and the main stakeholders.

8) Strategic planning 

The Director will make the strategic management plan for Faia Brava and EPNs for 2020-2030.

 

Profile

We are looking for someone with the following characteristics:

  • Love nature conservation: we are looking for an energetic, positive and inspiring director who has passion for nature conservation, forestry and environmental protection.  
  • Fundraising: have designed fundraising actions and have a proven record of funds obtained, including governmental and EU projects.
  • Professional experience: with at least 5 years of professional experience managing teams and / or organizations, ideally organizations in the field of nature conservation.Knowledge of strategic management: know how to manage an organization, in all its aspects, from strategic planning, creation of internal processes and procedures, evaluation of results and / or impacts of projects.
  • Financial management: have theoretical and practical knowledge of administrative and financial management and have implemented this knowledge in the management of teams / organizations.
  • Project management: is familiar with the project management cycle and knows how to supervise teams executing the projects;
  • Human resource management: knows how to manage and motivate people, regardless of their functions, and knows how to maintain a high team spirit and internal cohesion.Written communication: have ability and ease in writing letters and reports
  • Public relations: like and is able to represent the Organization at national and international events, contact people and entities to promote strategic partnerships for the organization or its projects.
  • Education: have an academic degree, preferably in the area of Ecology / Biology / Natural Resources / Forest / Environment.
  • Languages: speak and write fluently in Portuguese and English.
